In May 2012 Swimming Australia released results of the Youth Performance Squad (YPS), a program that rewards and recognises swimmers age 12 to 18 for their performances over the course of the 2011/12 season.
More than 2400 athletes have registered times that rank them as our country’s best age group swimmers in pool, Multi Class and open water competition.
Swimming Australia’s General Manager of Community Sport Adam Pine said the hard work and dedication of the swimmers and their coaches was evident through these outstanding results.
“YPS is now in its third year and every time the bar is raised we have swimmers stepping up to the mark to qualify for the program. With a 15% increase in the number of people making the cut this year we will look to set a fresh challenge for coaches and their athletes for the 2012/13 season.” Pine said.
“On behalf of Swimming Australia I’d like to congratulate every swimmer and their coach who qualified and encourage them to keep up the great work."
As reward for their effort squad members will be sent a YPS towel, cap and backpack in addition to having their achievement listed on the Swimming Australia website.
The 2012/13 YPS qualifying times will be available on www.swimming.org.au in July. Swimming Australia would like to thank program partners the Australian Government, EnergyAustralia and the State and Territory swimming associations for their contribution to the success of YPS
