School relay carnival gets Olympic treatment

Over 90 young school children from Manchester and the surrounding boroughs were treated to a special visit from six London bound Australian Olympians at the Manchester Aquatic Centre today. 

As the children participated in relays and water games, Olympic debutants Daniel Tranter, Daniel Arnamnart, Matson Lawson, Jayden Hadler and Brittany Elmslie as well as Beijing gold medallist Emily Seebohm were on deck to give helpful swimming tips and cheer them on. 

The children were split into six teams with each team designated an Olympic helper for the morning.  Swapping their spot in the water for a coaching role on deck, the Olympians shared swimming tips with their teams and got to know the local kids.     

Individual medley swimmer Daniel Tranter was more than happy to take time out of his busy schedule to help out. 

“To be able to teach these kids basic swimming skills in such a fun environment is awesome.  You could see they were having fun and I hope today will encourage them to keep swimming,” Tranter said. 

With less than ten days until the Games begin, the whole EnergyAustralia Swimming Team is finally together in Manchester and while the swimmers happily shared tips with the kids today, there will be no giving away helpful hints to the older swimmers in the Olympic Village later next week.
