Sydney swimmer Kenneth To has won two gold medals at the FINA World Cup in Dubai overnight, with Victorian Rachel Goh also picking up gold in the opening meet of the six-week series.

To won the men’s 100m freestyle ahead of American Anthony Ervin and then backed up to take the men’s 100m IM over of Trinidad’s George Bovell with West Australian Tommaso D’Orsogna fourth in 53.27.

The 20-year-old To, who will represent Australia at the World Short Course Championships in Istanbul in December, won the 100m free in a time of 46.89 with D’Orsogna fourth overall in 47.30 and Kyle Richardson from Queensland sixth in 47.52.

A medallist at the 2010 World Short Course Championships in Dubai, Rachel Goh was too strong for Japan’s Noriko Inada in the women’s 50m backstroke to win her first title of the series, hitting the wall in 27.02.

Fellow Victorian Ashley Delaney won silver in the men’s 100m backstroke behind Russia’s Stanislav Donets. A multiple medallist at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Delaney was more than half a second behind the Russian in a time of 21.28.

The men’s 400m freestyle saw Wollongong’s Robert Hurley pick up silver behind Japan’s Kosuke Hagino. Hurley, who also will represent Australia at the World Short Course Championships in Turkey, finished in a time of 3:41.49.

Delaney and Richardson finished seventh and eighth respectively in the men’s 50m butterfly in 23.37 and 23.56.

The Dubai leg of the FINA World Cup series will conclude tonight before moving on to Doha at the weekend.
