Project H2 gr0w

Swimming Australia's High Performance Team are conducting research at the 2018 Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Swimming Championships to examine how growth and maturation influences the development of young swimmers. We'd love you to get involved and take part in this ground breaking research project that will benefit you personally as well as the sport.
Report to the Dawn Fraser room (downstairs from the spectator seating) between 8am-12am and 4pm-8pm each day during Age Nationals.  There is a large banner with the Project H2grOw outline at the top of the stairs down. Each swimmer is invited to the maturation measurement station to have some basic information recorded (name, date of birth, stroke preference etc.). They will then have their height, weight and sitting height measured by Swimming Australia researchers. All information will be collected in approximately 10 minutes.

Important Information

Women’s 1500m/Men’s 800m Freestyle at Australian Age Championships
Following the release of the 2018 Australian Swim Team criteria, it has been highlighted that the Junior Pan Pacs (JPP) and Oceania Championships criteria have included the new Olympic events, the Men’s 800 Freestyle and Women’s 1500m Freestyle but there is not a selection event to qualify for the team.
As the new Olympic events were announced after the 2018 Age Championships program was set and they are not Commonwealth Games events, these events weren’t included in either national competition.
To rectify this a Men’s 800 Free and Women’s 1500m Freestyle will be added to the Australian Age Championships program.
These events will be contested at the end of the heats session on Day 3.
By adding these events to Day 3, it provides the older athletes a day’s recovery (Day 4) before the 16-18 years distance events start on day 5-6.
The events will be a standalone, non-Championship event for the Men’s 800m and Women’s 1500m Freestyle swum as a timed final with a maximum of 10 entrants for each event
Combined age group, based on year of birth that aligns with the age eligibility for the JPP team
  • Men: born in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 and
  • Women: born in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004
 Qualifying times are:
  • Men 800 Free – 8:25.00
  • Women 1500 Free – 17:30.00
  • QT’s must be long course and have been achieved since 1 January 2017
Eligible athletes wishing to enter these events must fill out the entry form in the information book above. Once entries close the swimmers with the 10 fastest times for each event will be contacted with final information
