Development opportunities

National Officiating Scholarship

The National Officiating Scholarship is an initiative run by the Australian Sports Commission for high performance Technical Officials. Candidates are identified based on their potential to become national or international standard swimming officials.

The scholarship will provide individuals with:

  • increased opportunities in officiating development and education
  • increased opportunities to attain a higher level of accreditation / qualification
  • opportunity to improve competence
  • skills to officiate within a high performance environment
  • increased opportunities to undertake professional development in officiating.

The program provides an opportunity to foster emerging talent by supporting the following outcomes through the scholarships:

  • building a culture of high performance in officiating
  • providing professional development opportunities for officials
  • providing additional specialist support systems for talented elite officials
  • providing leadership in mentoring and officials’ coaching programs.

The structure for the program aims to build a culture of high performance through three key elements:

  1. Frequent practical officiating of high quality competition under the guidance of an experienced mentor.
  2. Upgrading officiating accreditation / qualification.
  3. Professional development activities (e.g. attendance at seminars/conferences, exposure to high level officiating and related debriefings).

Congratulations to Jacqui McNamara and Kate Reynolds, both from WA who were successful in obtaining 2016 scholarships.
