Aussies to put on one final show for last night of Commonwealth Games Swimming

The Aussies will head into the final night of swimming in the same dominant fashion they have the previous five nights looking to clean up in the pool in one last medal haul for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Women’s 400m Freestyle
The last days of the 2018 Commonwealth Games swimming program will be a tough task for our distance freestyle women, with both Ariarne Titmus and Jessica Ashwood having to back up after two 800m freestyle events to swim two 400m freestyles in one day.
It didn’t look like it phased Titmus who cruised through her heat in 4:10.22 to take the top spot into the final tonight. The talented teenager, who is always on the hunt for perfection, will no doubt be looking to go faster again tonight with the Australian record of 4:02.36 firmly in her sights.
After waiting patiently for six days to start her program, Mikkayla Sheridan put together a composed 400 heat to take fourth place into the final tonight in a time of 4:11.69 with Ashwood qualifying in seventh in 4:13.12.

Men’s 200m Individual Medley
Training partners Mitch Larkin and Clyde Lewis will go head-to-head in the final of the men’s 200m individual medley tonight with the dynamic-duo clocking the top two times from the heats this morning.
Triple gold medallist from the meet so far, Larkin was the best of the bunch this morning with his time of 1:59.02 but he knows that Lewis, who leaves nothing in the tank, will be hot on his heels after touching in 1:59.50.
Lewis was the surprise gold medallist in the 400m IM after Larkin pulled out to concentrate on the backstroke and the pair will be in a tight tussle for the title tonight.
Travis Mahoney will just miss the final after clocking a 2:02.30 fir 12th overall.

Women’s S8 50m Freestyle
Gold medallist Lakeisha Patterson is in the hot seat for a crack at another Commonwealth Games gold tonight after posting the top time in the women’s S8 50m freestyle. Patterson hit the wall in 31.41 with Tiffany Thomas Kane 5th from the heats in 39.39.

Men’s S9 100m Backstroke
Aussie trio Tim Hodge (1:05.03), Logan Powell (1:05.28) and Brenden Hall (1:06.10) will be on the hunt to add another trifecta to Australia’s tally after clocking the top three times from the heats this morning.
If successful it will be the sixth clean sweep for the team.

Men’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay
The men’s medley relay heat team of backstroker Bradley Woodward (54.01), breaststroker Matt Wilson (59.03), butterflier David Morgan (52.14) and freestyler Jack Cartwright (48.43) cruised through the heats this morning to put Australia in the Centre lane for tonight.
Australia will have the tough task of overcoming a strong English and Canadian team but should be in the mix for a medal with the final team likely to be, gold medallist Mitch Larkin, 4th place finisher in the breaststroke Jake Packard, bronze butterflier Grant Irvine and 100m free silver medallist Kyle Chalmers.
