Open Water Program and QT's

UPDATE: The event program and QT’s are now available, click here to access. Sorry to swimmers for any confusion, but the 16-17 and 18-19 years 5km races were incorrectly omitted from previous communication.

Swimming Australia is excited to announce that the 2018 Australian Open Water Swimming Championships will next year return to Brighton Beach in Adelaide, following on from the successful championships held there in 2017.

The sun-drenched Brighton Beach and iconic jetty was the perfect back drop for the open water races in 2017 and after plenty of positive feedback the decision was made to return to Adelaide for the event from January 26 to 28.

For 2018’s event and the future, Swimming Australia has made some changes to the By-Laws for the event to better align to international rules and regulations in an aim to create more meaningful competition and straightforward selection.

Key changes: The main changes to the Swimming Australia Limited (SAL) By-Laws are to the event age bandings, competition program and date of birth eligibility.

Why change?
The new rules will bring SAL in line with FINA and other international events and allow SAL events to create straightforward selection races within the event program.

By reflecting our event structure to international standards, SAL will also be able to create greater consistency of performance standards for all events and age bands.

We hope that the changes will help to create more meaningful competition that bring the best out of our swimmers and aid the overall long-term development of athletes.

When will these changes commence?
All competitions from the 2018 Australian Open Water Swimming Championships onwards will be aligned to FINA competition structures.
