Two new records for day three of GHF Age Champs

Two new records have been set in day three of the Georgina Hope Foundation Australian Age Championships as a new wave of brilliant young talent emerges.

The Boys 13-14yrs 4x50 Medley Relay record previously set by St Peters Western (1:51.51) in 2010 was the first to go with the team from UWA West Coast making it their own in a time of 1:50.66. Not to be out done, the girls from St Peters Western set a new Australian Record (3:46.30) shaving the previous record held by Carlile down by over a second.

Commonwealth Gold Medallist Elijah Winnington was too strong in the 17-18yrs 200m Freestyle, despite a strong finish from Zachary Attard. Winnington (1:47.58) showed his dominance leading from the start and stormed home to claim Gold ahead of Attard (1:49.20) and Matthew Temple (1:50.16). In the Girls, Commonwealth Games Silver medallist and 2017 Age champion, Laura Taylor (1:59.56) had to settle for Silver after being touched out by Brittany Castelluzzo (1:59.39).

Northcote’s Victoria Bushell (9:02.10) proved she’s a force to be reckoned with taking out the Girls 13yrs 800m Freestyle, a huge 16 seconds clear of the field. Bushell dominated from the start and continued to stretch ahead of Silver medallist Kimberly Doyle (9:18.92) and Anna Lee (9:24.26).

The boys in the 15yrs 50m Freestyle put on a show with New Zealand visitor Michael Pickett (23.18) claiming Gold alongside Australian Age Champion Taixin Wang (23.89) and medallists Alex Kirchner (23.90) and Thomas Hauck (23.92).

The future of middle distance looks in great hands with Lani Pallister (4:11.48), Sharni Robinson (4:14.78) and Jade Starr (4:18.82) all delivering beautiful swims in the 15yrs 400m Freestyle. After finishing second on night 2 in the 100m event, Tomas Neill turned the tables on Thomas Hauck in the 15yrs 400m Freestyle to claim Gold.

Nine of the ten boys in the 14yrs 100m Freestyle did PBs to secure their lane in the final. The top three finishers set new PBs in the final with Joseph Hampson (52.49) crowned Australian Age Champion ahead of Brendan Best (53.39) and Edward Speller (53.93).
