Junior Dolphins Fire in Day One of Junior Pan Pacs

The Australian Junior Dolphins have started off in fine style at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii.

Led by Australian flagbearer Flynn Southam in the Opening Ceremony, the Junior Dolphins kicked into action with a silver medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle to Jamie Perkins in 1:57.34.

Flynn Southam won gold and broke the Junior Pan Pac Record in the Men’s 200m freestyle in a time of 1:47.11.

West Australian Iona Anderson swam a big PB to win silver in the Women’s 100m backstroke in 1:00.39 and Jamie Perkins backed up her earlier swim to go head to head with a USA swimmer, narrowly finishing second by just 0.1sec, in 8:30.44.

In a hotly contested 1500m freestyle, Josh Staples was second with 300m to go, two body lengths behind the leader, only to swim down the leader to win gold in 15:18.54.

The Mixed Medley Relay team was the final event of the evening with Jaclyn Barclay, Haig Buckingham, Jesse Coleman and Hannah Casey combining to win the silver medal.
