Southam and Staples Secure Junior Pan Pacs Trebles
Australian Junior Dolphins Flynn Southam and Joshua Staples have secured historic trebles on night 4 of the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Hawaii.
Southam claimed Gold in the Men’s 50m Freestyle in a time of 22.36 to take home the 50/100/200 treble, while Staples clinical 7:56.29 to take Gold in the Men’s 800m Freestyle Final to secure the 400/800/1500 trio of victories.
The two Gold medals confirmed an historic clean sweep for the Junior Dolphins, with Australia claiming every individual male freestyle title on offer at the Championships.
Fellow Junior Dolphin Milla Jansen also claimed a Gold medal on night 4, with a powerful performance in the Women’s 50m Freestyle to touch first in 25.19.
Further highlights form the Junior Dolphins on night 4 of the competition included:
- A silver medal for the Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay team of Fergus McLachlan, Haig Buckingham, Jesse Coleman and Flynn Southam;
- Bronze for William Petric in the Men’s 200m Medley Final;
- Bronze for Tiana Kritzinger in the Womens 1500 Freestyle and;
- Bronze for the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay team of Iona Anderson, Isabella Johnson, Bella Grant and Milla Jansen.
The 7 medals on day 4 takes the Junior Dolphins total tally to 25 for the meet, including 8 Gold, 11 Silver and 6 Bronze.
