More than 1,000 swimmers – including members of the MLC team – commemorated Anzac Day by hitting the water for the Bondi Lifeguards Splash Series, Sydney Harbour Splash event.
A special day on the calendar, participants and spectators took time to reflect before the swim, with a Welcome to Country and the playing of The Last Post.
Now in its fifth year, the Sydney Harbour Splash kicks off at Rose Bay and follows the coastline, giving swimmers a stunning view of the Harbour Bridge as they tackle the course.
With three distances on offer – 1km, 2.5km and 5km – charities and corporate groups and all participants were able to choose the course to suit their level of expertise.
Race director and Bondi Lifeguard, Andrew ‘Reidy’ Reid, said the event was a huge success.“What a fantastic day we had swimming in our beautiful Sydney harbour,” he said.
“It makes me so happy to see everyone coming out of the water smiling and having great time – that's what makes all the hard work worth it!"
With a big focus on making the event environmentally friendly, competitors were asked to bring their own cap, refrain from using single use drink bottles. Reusable cable ties were also used to minimise plastic and waste in the water and along the Harbour.
Swimming Australia’s partner MLC, who sponsor the MLC Flippers squad, had 16 swimmers take part in the Sydney Harbour Splash including Enora Mantel, who expressed her enjoyment.
"I really wanted to thank you, this ocean swim was fantastic! I enjoyed both the training and the challenge on the day. The weather was just perfect, and the ceremony pre-swim was a really special,” she said.
“Thank you to MLC for this great opportunity and Swimming Australia’s coaches for the advice and training – I got a lot out of it.
“I look forward for any future opportunity to jump in the water and proudly wear my MLC cap!"
Congratulations to all swimmers and event organisers who took part in the special Anzac Day Sydney Harbour Splash.
