Keen to swim laps with James Magnussen? Need some extra motivation in the pool? Or trying to squeeze 30 minutes of physical activity into your day? Well, we’ve got good news for you!
Swimming Australia has teamed up with some of our country’s top swim stars to launch training programs in the iSwim app – starting with ‘Maggie’s Muscle Build’ presented by World Freestyle champ, James Magnussen.
'Maggie's Muscle Build' is a high intensity freestyle swim workout designed to improve your speed, fitness and stroke efficiency. Magnussen will guide you though the warm up, main set and cool down including demonstrating freestyle drills to improve your body position, catch and technique.
"Swimming doesn't have to be countless laps for endless hours, this session will be high intensity which will create some variation and keep things interesting," says Magnussen.
The introduction of programs complements the existing features of the recreational swimming app which was launched in January 2019. Free to download, iSwim allows users to log their swims and track their weekly stats including, distance, heart rate, calories burned and time in the water. New features also added with this app update include improved training history charts and a live feed from Swimming Australia's social channels.
More training programs will be added weekly and presented by Australia's best athletes from different aquatic backgrounds, including members of the Australian Dolphins Swim Team, Bondi Lifeguard Andrew Reid, Ironman Alistair Day and Ironwoman Georgia Miller to name a few. There'll be no shortage of inspiration with all these programs target fun, fitness, motivation and overall wellness. Whether you're training for an open water swim, triathlon, recovering from land-based sports or trying to get fit, you'll find a program to suit your skill level and fitness.
With the ability to tailor programs to suit different levels of fitness and a step-by-step written breakdown, paired with an engaging demonstration video, iSwim continues to adapt and evolve, capturing attention and drawing people into the sport of swimming.
From the local pool to the beach, to a 10-metre pool or your backyard, iSwim users can benefit from the guidance of the program leaders as they are taken through (either water or land-based) warm up, main set and cool down sessions.
With more features to come, keep your swim training interesting with iSwim. Coming soon, users will be able to create their own virtual squad, connect with friends to create challenges, imrpove with skills and drills video content and be paired with Garmin wearable devices.
Head to the Apple or Android app store and download iSwim for free today and kick start your swim training! You can find the training plans in the My Swims section of the app and what's best, they are all free to access.
