Future Phins intiative with arena launched

Swimming Australia and arena have announced seven of the eight athletes that will join the Future Phins program, aimed at supporting young high potential athletes in the swimming community.

Future Phins is a concept developed by arena and designed to help the identified young athletes within the pathways on their journey to international representation.

Six able-bodied age athletes and two multi-class age athletes have been identified by the Swimming Australia pathways leads to receive the support from arena, Swimming Australia’s swimwear and apparel partner, and will receive arena swimwear and apparel as well as a small amount of cash support for their swimming progression.

The seven athletes announced today are:

Callum Simpson – Multi-class 

  • Club: Flinders
  • 2024 Australian Age Championships Medals
    • Gold in the Boys 16-18 years multi-class 100m & 400m Freestyle
    • Silver in the 50m Freestyle

Victoria Belando-Nicholson – Multi-class

  • Club: Yeronga Park
  • 2024 Australian Age Championships Medals
    • Gold in the Girls 16-18 years multi-class 100m, 400m Freestyle
    • Bronze in the 50m Freestyle

Marcus Da Silva – Able-bodied

  • Club: Cranbrook
  • 2024 Australian Age Championships Medals
    • Gold in the Boys 17 years 100 & 200m Freestyle
    • Silver in the 400m Freestyle

Piper Asquith – Able-bodied

  • Club: Griffith University 
  • 2024 Australian Age Championships Medals
    • Gold in the Girls 16 years 100 & 200m Freestyle
    • Silver in the 400m Freestyle, 200m & 400m IM

Joshua Conias – Able-bodied

  • Club: Somerville House
  • 2024 Australian Age Championships Medals
  • Gold in the 16 years boys 100m Freestyle
  • Gold in the 50m Freestyle, swimming a time of 22.35, .02 off Kyle Chalmers record

Tex Cross – Able-bodied

  • Club: Highlanders
  • 2024 Australian Age Championships Medals
  • Gold in the 17 years boys 400m, 800m & 1500m Freestyle
  • Bronze in the 200m Freestyle

Olympia Pope – Able-bodied

  • Club: Miami
  • 2024 Australian Age Championships Medals
  • Gold in the Girls 15 years 200m Breaststroke
  • Silver in the 100m Breaststroke
  • Bronze in the Girls 15 years 50m Breaststroke

Each athlete was presented their arena pack on pool deck today on day 8 of the Australian Age Championships at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

The eighth athlete will be identified in the coming days.
