Vale Neil Rogers

Swimming Australia are saddened to hear of the passing of Neil Rogers, Dolphin Number #202. Rogers participated in the 1972 Munich Olympics and 1976 Montreal Olympics, and is a multi-medal winning Commonwealth Games athlete.

Rogers won an individual gold at the 1974 Christchurch Commonwealth Games in the 100m butterfly while also taking home two silver medals in the relays. He also won a silver and a bronze at the 1970 Edinburgh Games in the medley relay and 200m backstroke respectively.

Rogers remained active in the swimming community over the years, coaching at the iconic Icebergs pool in Sydney.

Neil Martin, Co-Chair of Swimming Australia and a team mate of Rogers at the ’72 Olympics said: “Neil Rogers was a much loved and talented athlete of the 1970s and an icon of Australian swimming including as a coach at Bondi Icebergs. He was highly regarded by all who knew him and will be sorely missed by our sport.”

Swimming Australia extends its condolences to Neil’s family and friends.
